What is limewash paint?

Limewash Paint in Dubai: A Natural Wall Finish That Breathes

Limewash paint is made from slaked lime, water and natural pigment. It is one of the oldest wall finishes in the world, and it still looks fresh in modern Dubai homes.

Normal emulsion paint sits on top of the wall like a plastic skin. Lime wash paint is different. It sinks into the surface and hardens with the air. This is called carbonation. The result is a soft, chalky, matte finish with gentle cloudy movement. No two walls ever look the same, and that is the beauty of it.

Our limewash painter team applies every coat by hand with a wide block brush. We use a cross-hatch brush stroke to build a mottled texture that shifts with the light. In the morning the wall looks light and open. By sunset it looks warm and deep. That living, changing look is why interior designers in Dubai keep asking for limewash walls.

Because lime is naturally alkaline, limewash also resists mould and mildew. It is breathable, low odour, low VOC and safe for bedrooms, nurseries and majlis areas. If you want a healthy, eco-friendly, natural wall finish that also looks beautiful, limewash paint Dubai projects are exactly what we do every day.

  • Made from lime putty, water and mineral pigment — nothing plastic
  • Breathable finish that lets moisture escape from the wall
  • Naturally resists mould, mildew and bad smells
  • Soft matte look with real depth and hand-brushed movement
  • Works on plaster, gypsum board, concrete, cement render and old paint

Why homeowners pick us

Why We Are a Trusted Limewash Painter in Dubai

Anyone can roll on paint. Limewash needs a steady hand, the right lime, and a painter who understands how Dubai heat and humidity change the drying. That is all we do.

Lime specialists, not general painters

We do not paint doors, do carpentry or fix air conditioning. We only apply lime finishes. That focus is why our texture looks even and never patchy.

Real samples before you commit

You see the exact colour and texture on your own wall first. No guessing from a phone screen, no surprises on handover day.

Fixed price, written quote

Your quote lists the rooms, the square metres, the number of coats and the total. The price does not change unless you ask for extra work.

Clean sites, every day

Floors covered, sockets masked, furniture wrapped and dust sheets down before the first brush. We sweep and clear every evening.

Safe, low-VOC materials

Our lime is breathable, low odour and free from harsh solvents. Safe around children, pets, asthma sufferers and food areas.

On time, or we tell you early

You get a start date, a finish date and a WhatsApp update each day. If anything slips, you hear it from us first.

Two-year workmanship warranty

If the finish lifts, flakes or fades because of our work, we come back and fix it free. Simple as that.

Designer-friendly team

We work with interior designers and fit-out contractors across Dubai, follow mood boards exactly and hit fit-out deadlines.

Straight talk, no upselling

If limewash is wrong for your wall — a damp bathroom or a peeling old surface — we will tell you and suggest a better option instead.

Limewash colours

Popular Limewash Paint Colours in Dubai

Lime pigments are natural, so the shades are soft and earthy. These are the colours our Dubai clients ask for most. Every shade can be made lighter or deeper to suit your room.

Desert ChalkWarm off-white. Best for small rooms and low light.
Sand BeigeThe Dubai favourite. Soft, warm and easy to live with.
Dune GreigeBetween grey and beige. Works with oak and rattan.
Soft TaupeDeeper mushroom tone for feature walls and majlis.
Clay StoneEarthy and grounded. Beautiful in evening light.
Olive GroveMuted green from our logo. Calm and natural.
Coastal GreyCool grey with a soft blue hint. Modern and quiet.
Marina BlueDeep slate blue for bold accent walls and reception areas.
Roasted CocoaRich brown for a warm, cocooning bedroom.
Deep MossDramatic dark green for cafés, studies and libraries.

Colours on a screen never match a real wall. Ask for free painted sample boards and we will bring them to your home.

Textures we apply

Limewash Paint Textures and Finishes We Create in Dubai

Limewash is not one look. The brush, the number of coats and the pigment strength all change the result. These photos show the six finishes we apply most often in Dubai homes and shops.

Classic Cloudy Limewash texture sample — limewash paint Dubai finish by Limewash Paint Dubai
Most popular

Classic Cloudy Limewash

The signature limewash look. Soft clouds drift across the wall and shift as the daylight moves. Best for living rooms, bedrooms and majlis areas where you want calm rather than drama.

Heavy Mottle Limewash texture sample — limewash paint Dubai finish by Limewash Paint Dubai
High character

Heavy Mottle Limewash

A deeper, more dramatic version with stronger light and dark patches. Works beautifully on a single feature wall, in an entrance hall, or anywhere you want the wall to be the main focus.

Cross-Brush Texture texture sample — limewash paint Dubai finish by Limewash Paint Dubai
Hand-brushed

Cross-Brush Texture

Here we let the block-brush strokes stay visible in an X pattern. You can read the movement of the hand across the wall. A favourite with interior designers and cafés.

Roman Clay Smooth texture sample — limewash paint Dubai finish by Limewash Paint Dubai
Smooth finish

Roman Clay Smooth

Troweled rather than brushed, so the surface is tighter and silkier with only gentle movement. Sits well in modern apartments and anywhere a cleaner line is wanted.

Deep Colour Limewash texture sample — limewash paint Dubai finish by Limewash Paint Dubai
Bold choice

Deep Colour Limewash

Dark greens, charcoals and deep browns. The mottling shows even more clearly in a strong shade. Stunning in studies, libraries, restaurants and powder rooms.

Polished Tadelakt texture sample — limewash paint Dubai finish by Limewash Paint Dubai
Water resistant

Polished Tadelakt

Burnished with a stone and sealed with soap, so it repels water. This is the finish we use for bathrooms, shower walls and vanity areas that still need the natural look.

Every wall is mixed and brushed by hand, so your finish will be close to these but never an exact copy. That is the point of a natural material.

How we work

Our Limewash Painting Process, Step by Step

Good limewash is 70% preparation. Here is exactly what happens from your first message to the day we hand the room back to you.

You send us a message

WhatsApp a photo of the wall, or fill the form above. Tell us the room, roughly how big it is, and the look you want. We reply the same day with a rough price range.

Free site visit and wall check

We come to your home or office at a time that suits you. We measure the walls, check the surface for damp, cracks, old peeling paint or gypsum joints, and note anything that needs fixing first.

Colour samples on your wall

We paint sample patches or bring boards in your shortlisted shades. You look at them in morning light and evening light before choosing. This step is free and there is no pressure.

Written quote and start date

Within 24 hours you get a clear quote: rooms, square metres, number of coats, materials, timeline and total price in AED. Approve it on WhatsApp and we lock your start date.

Protection and surface preparation

Furniture wrapped, floors covered, sockets and skirting masked. We fill cracks, sand rough spots, remove loose paint and clean off dust so the lime can grip the wall properly.

Mineral primer coat

We apply a breathable mineral primer. This controls how fast the wall absorbs water, which is what stops patchy, streaky limewash later. Skipping this step is the number one reason DIY limewash fails.

Two hand-brushed limewash coats

Coat one goes on thin, in a cross-hatch pattern. We let it dry fully, then apply coat two to build the cloudy depth. Every square metre is brushed by hand — never rolled or sprayed flat.

Curing, snagging and clean handover

The lime hardens over the next days as it reacts with the air. We remove all masking, clean the site, walk the room with you and fix any snag on the spot. Then we send your care guide and warranty.

Does Limewash Paint Work in Dubai Heat and Humidity?

Yes — and it often works better here than standard paint. But only if it is applied the right way.

Dubai gives walls a hard time. Summer heat, high humidity near the coast, salty air, fine sand and strong sun all attack a normal painted surface. Plastic-based paint traps moisture behind it. That trapped water pushes the paint off the wall, which is why you see bubbling and peeling on so many villas.

Limewash does the opposite. It stays open, so moisture inside the wall can escape as vapour instead of building up. It also reflects a lot of sunlight, which helps keep the surface a little cooler. On the outside of a building, lime bonds chemically with cement render and stone rather than just sticking on top.

The skill is in the timing. In very hot weather lime dries too fast and can look powdery. So we damp the wall first, work in shade, avoid the midday sun, and adjust the mix for the season. That is the part a general painter usually gets wrong.

  • Handles 45°C summer heat without cracking
  • Lets damp walls dry out instead of trapping water
  • Reflects sun and stays cooler to the touch
  • UV-stable mineral pigments that do not fade fast
  • Resists salt air near Marina, JBR and Palm Jumeirah

Where limewash is a great choice

  • Bedrooms, living rooms and majlis
  • Villa façades and boundary walls
  • Hallways, staircases and ceilings
  • Cafés, boutiques, salons and offices
  • Old walls with small cracks and history

Where we suggest something else

  • Inside a shower — use tadelakt or microcement
  • Behind a cooker splashback — use tile or sealed plaster
  • Walls with active leaks — fix the leak first
  • Rooms that need heavy daily scrubbing
  • Very glossy old paint that cannot be sanded

Aftercare made simple

How to Look After Your Limewash Walls

Limewash is low maintenance. Follow these easy rules and your walls will look good for many years.

Let it cure

Give the walls two to three weeks before you wipe or lean anything on them. The lime is still hardening.

Dust, do not scrub

Use a soft dry cloth or a vacuum brush head. Hard scrubbing will polish the texture and leave a shiny mark.

Blot spills fast

Press a dry cloth on the spot instead of rubbing. Most marks fade on their own as the lime keeps curing.

Keep a touch-up jar

We leave you a small sealed jar of your exact colour. One brushed patch fixes scuffs in minutes.

Skip harsh cleaners

No bleach, no strong chemicals, no steam cleaners. Water and a soft cloth is all you ever need.

Watch the humidity

Run the AC or a fan in closed rooms. Good airflow keeps every natural wall finish looking its best.

Ask about sealer

In hallways, kids' rooms and shops we can add a breathable lime sealer for extra scuff protection.

Refresh in 8–10 years

One new coat over the old one brings everything back. No stripping and no sanding needed.

Questions people ask us

Limewash Paint Dubai: Frequently Asked Questions

Short, honest answers to the questions we hear most from Dubai homeowners, tenants, designers and business owners.

What is limewash paint and why is it popular in Dubai?

Limewash paint is made from slaked lime, water and natural pigment. It soaks into the wall and hardens with the air instead of sitting on top like normal paint. That gives a soft, chalky, cloudy texture that changes with the light. In Dubai it is popular because it suits warm, natural interior styles, it breathes in a humid climate, and it hides small wall imperfections instead of showing them.

How much does limewash paint cost in Dubai?

A single accent wall usually starts around AED 1,200. A full bedroom starts around AED 2,800, and a one or two bedroom apartment starts around AED 8,500. The final price depends on wall condition, ceiling height, colour depth and how much preparation is needed. We give you a fixed written quote after a free site visit, so the number never changes later.

Is limewash better than normal paint?

It depends on the room. Limewash is better when you want texture, breathability and natural materials, and it is excellent on villa façades and older walls. Normal emulsion is better when you need a cheap, flat, easy-to-scrub surface. We are happy to tell you when limewash is not the right choice for your wall.

Can limewash paint be used on exterior walls in Dubai?

Yes. Limewash works very well on cement render, plaster, stone and concrete outside. It bonds with the surface chemically rather than just sticking to it, so it does not bubble and peel the way plastic-based exterior paint often does in Dubai heat. We use UV-stable mineral pigments so the colour holds up under strong sun.

Does limewash paint peel or flake?

Properly applied limewash does not peel. It becomes part of the wall as it cures. Peeling almost always means the surface was not prepared, the wrong primer was used, or the lime was applied over glossy old paint. Our two-year workmanship warranty covers this.

How long does limewash paint last?

Indoors, limewash lasts ten years or more with light care. Outdoors in Dubai it typically looks good for five to eight years before it needs a refresh coat. Refreshing is simple: one new coat goes straight over the old one with no stripping or sanding.

Is limewash paint waterproof? Can I use it in a bathroom?

Standard limewash is not waterproof, so we do not recommend it inside a shower or directly behind a sink. For wet areas we use tadelakt or microcement instead. These are also lime or cement based, so you get a similar natural look with a sealed, water resistant surface.

How do you clean limewash walls?

Dust them with a soft dry cloth or a vacuum brush head. If something spills, blot it gently with a dry cloth rather than rubbing. Avoid bleach, strong chemicals and steam cleaners. We leave you a small jar of your exact colour so any scuff can be brushed out in minutes.

How long does a limewash painting job take?

One accent wall is usually a single day. A bedroom takes one to two days, a living room two to three days, and a one or two bedroom apartment three to five days. Full villas take one to three weeks depending on size. You get a start date and a finish date in writing before we begin.

Does limewash paint smell?

Almost not at all. Limewash is low VOC, low odour and free from harsh solvents. Most clients use the room again the same evening. This makes it a good option for bedrooms, nurseries, and anyone with asthma or allergies.

Can limewash be applied over existing painted walls?

Usually yes. We sand the surface, fix any cracks and apply a breathable mineral primer so the lime can grip properly. Very glossy or peeling old paint needs to be removed first. We check all of this during the free site visit and tell you exactly what is needed.

Can you match a specific colour for my limewash walls?

Yes. Bring us a fabric, a tile, a paint code or even a Pinterest photo and we will hand-tint a lime colour to match. We then paint free sample boards or patches on your wall so you can see the shade in daylight and at night before you commit.

Do you provide free samples before booking?

Yes, samples and the site visit are both free with no obligation. Screens never show limewash colours correctly, so seeing a real painted sample on your own wall is the only reliable way to choose.

Which areas of Dubai do you cover?

We cover all of Dubai from our Business Bay office, including Downtown, Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah, Al Barsha, Dubai Hills Estate, Arabian Ranches, JVC, Mirdif, Meydan and Damac Hills. We also take larger projects in Sharjah, Ajman and Abu Dhabi.

Is limewash paint safe for children and pets?

Yes. It is made from natural minerals, contains no plastic binders and gives off very little odour. Lime is also naturally alkaline, which means it resists mould, mildew and bacteria on the wall surface.

What is the difference between limewash and Roman clay?

Limewash is brushed on thin and gives a cloudy, textured, matte look. Roman clay is troweled on and gives a smoother, silkier finish with softer movement. Limewash suits a rustic, organic style. Roman clay suits a cleaner, more modern one. We apply both.

Do you work on weekends or at night?

Yes. We offer evening, weekend and overnight slots for cafés, salons, offices, shops and busy family homes, so your daily routine or business is not interrupted.

Do you offer a warranty on limewash painting?

Every project comes with a two-year workmanship warranty. If the finish lifts, flakes or fades because of how we applied it, we return and fix it at no cost.

Can limewash cover cracks and uneven walls?

Limewash hides very fine hairline marks and gives character to older walls, but it will not fill real cracks or level an uneven surface. We fill, sand and skim where needed before painting so the final result looks intentional rather than damaged.

How do I book a limewash painter in Dubai?
